THE LATE BIE KAI HO KAL
HIS EXCELLENCY:-Gentlemen,-It was only on the 25th of February last that this Council recorded its great apprecia- tion of the eminent services rendered to and to the Colony by Sir Kai Ho Kai during the long period of 24 years during which he had been a Member of the Council, bis seat upon which he was obliged to resign owing to ill-health. To-day I have to ask you to record our deep sorrow at his untimely death unu our heartfelt sympathy with his widow and bis family in their bereavement The Council has so recently expressed it sense of the devoted and valuable services of Sir Kai Ho Kai, and the Chinese Community, in the address which they presented bim, and the public Press in numerous appreciative articles at the time of his resignation and

his death have ricorded so fully the splendid work don t# the Chinese Community and for the whole Colony by our deceased colleagusį and friend, that it is unnecessary for me to dilate further upon his services GOW. We have followed him to the grave with sorrow, we cherish his memory with respect, we treasure with admiration the example he has set us all of devotion to ublic duty. It is with a beavy heart that I move the resolution which in terma too inadequate records our feelings at this hour.
Hon. Mr. WEI YUK-I beg to second the resolution moved by your Excellency. The members of Council then stood, and his Excellency read the resolution in the following terms:-

This Council desires to record its deep sorrow at the death of Sir Kai Ho Kai, for 24 years one of its most brilliant and devoted members; and to tender to his widow and family its heartfelt sympathy with them in their bereave- meat.
The resolution was passed in silence.
